The City of Parkersburg Recycling process is a double or dual stream as opposed to a single stream process where all recyclables are put into one container, dumped into a truck, and taken to the site to be sorted. The double stream recycling program requires workers to sort recyclables at the collection point and then filter the items at the recycling center. The double stream sorting methods yield cleaner products, which are easier to sell to manufacturers. Parkersburg recyclables are taken to the Material Recovery Facility where the recycling material is sorted and separated prior to its shipment to the manufacturer. After the recyclables are processed, they are sold to different manufacturers.
